Lt Col Tony "Tibs" Cianciolo is a 1991 graduate of The Ohio State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Management. He has also earned a Master’s Degree in Military Operational Art and Science from the Air Command and Staff College, Maxwell Air Force Base. Lt Col Cianciolo received his commission from the Air National Guard Academy of Military Science in July 1999 and is a Command Pilot with over 3500 total flight hours in both fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft. Prior to his service in the Air National Guard, he served seven years as an Army Aviation Warrant Officer and is a graduate of the Army Air Assault School.

Since arriving at the National Guard Bureau in 2005, his staff assignments include two tours as a requirements officer where he became Chief, Mobility Requirements, responsible for the modernization and acquisition oversight of all Air National Guard C-130/KC-135/C-17/C-40 aircraft. Additionally, he served as a Legislative Liaison Officer in the Air Force Senate Liaison Office, where he advised Air Force leadership on legislative affairs and congressional relations. He is a graduate of the Defense Legislative Fellowship program where he served as the military legislative assistant in the office of Congressman Mike Conaway of the Texas 11th District. He assisted Congressman Conaway with his duties as a member of the House Armed Services Committee and provided oversight on all military, veterans, and homeland security related legislation.

Lt Col Cianciolo has extensive operational experience in both Army and Air Force aircraft and participated in the following campaigns; Operation Joint Guard, Operation Cornet Oak, Operation Joint Forge, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Lt Col Cianciolo maintains flight currency as an aircraft commander in the C-130 with the Air National Guard. His personal decorations include Meritorious Service Medal, 3 Air Medals, Aerial Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Air Force and Army Achievement Medal, and numerous unit and campaign medals and ribbons.

He is a commercial airline pilot and holds civilian ratings of airline transport pilot with privileges of operating multi-engine fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft.
