On July 22 of 2010 the Board approved the recommendations on
Reducing Overhead and Improving Business Operations
.
On August 9, 2010, Secretary Gates announced an initial set of decisions to reduce duplication, overhead and excess in the defense enterprise and over time instill a culture of savings and restraint in this department. A news release on August 9, 2010 outlined a substantial cancellation of excessive programs and the establishment of budgetary and staffing limitations to meet a savings of more than $300 billion.
Through a Memo signed by the Secretary of Defense on August 16, 2011, the department promulgated information regarding the closure of JFCOM and the elimination of Assistant Secretary of Defense Networks Integration.
